It could be that Levin’s smoking habit is directly correlated to his position on the leaderboard…… but I doubt it. I’ll bet it’s just that when he is on the leaderboard is the only time we SEE him smoking. His ‘people’ really should tell him to clean up this act.

After seeing Spencer on TV at the Waste Management on Feb. 4th on the 18th fairway smoking and spitting, he is going to lose may fans. What kind of message is he sending to the young comers? Tell him to quit or he’ll wind up like John Daly, a slob with talent!

Casey,
As always, entertaining and I agree with about 90% of what you propose. I think you have a pretty safe chance of Q2 weather not being as bad in ’12 as it was in ’11 but, as you saw (bad pun)in the equipment category performance bet we made in advance of the 2010 season, we are the accountability police and the fact checkers in this industry on anything that touches our areas of expertise. Keep prognositicating, my experience shows that people who won’t take a stand on anything generally aren’t worth keeping company with.

While I agree that in some ways this could make Tiger look more sympathetic, I seriously doubt a former employee would throw himself on the racially-insensitive pile merely for the purposes of making his former employer who he seems to genuinely now hate look better. And if he did, well then he deserves to have stories like this written about him.

This makes Tiger more sympathetic. It could work to his advantage. Conspiracy theorists would claim they staged the whole thing to make Tiger the good guy.

I totally agree that is was an impressive performance. But I just don’t see it as historic in the same way that Tiger’s was historic in 2000.

Casey, while I agree with a few of your opinions/insights I think your story if a bit off base by not recognizing a win of any major by 8 strokes off of a full field and having the lowest total four day score in major history… Sorry, I’m going with Rory may be golf’s next GREAT talent…

I will never be a fan of Spencer Levin. Although smoking doesn’t bother me, his disrespect for other players and the courses that he litters with his butts has made me a NON fan. I have witnessed him blowing smoke in the face of other players and watched him discard all of his butts on the course. When offered a bag to put his butts in, he was rude as was his caddy. These courses that they are “invited” to play on have members that care about their courses and all they ask is that the pros and their caddies show some respect and pick up after themselves. I think he is a self centered child that has a lot to learn and has a lot of growing up to do.
